Refund, Redo & Cancellation Policy

Clear rules for earned services, unperformed notarial acts, and corrections

Effective dateAugust 1, 2026
Last updatedJuly 20, 2026

The main rule

A fee for a notarial act is charged only when that act is performed. Mobile, travel, reserved-time, priority, printing, courier, technology, and other services may become earned before a notarization is completed.

1. More than 24 hours before the appointment

You may cancel or reschedule at no charge. Amounts paid are refunded to the original payment method or, at your request, applied to a new appointment. Non-refundable third-party charges that you separately approved may be deducted only when already incurred and legally non-refundable.

2. Less than 24 hours before the appointment

When you cancel or reschedule with less than 24 hours' notice, the mobile or travel fee, reserved-appointment fee, priority fee, printing, document preparation, courier, parking, toll, and third-party charges already incurred or performed are earned and non-refundable.

Fees specifically charged for notarial acts that were not performed are not charged or are refunded. If a flat package included a notarial act, the invoice allocation or reasonable itemization will be used to identify the refundable notarial-act portion.

3. No-shows and inaccessible appointments

If MzNotaryMN arrives at the agreed location and the signer or required contact is unavailable, cannot be reached, access is denied, or no one appears within 15 minutes after the scheduled time without communication, MzNotaryMN may close the appointment as a no-show.

The mobile or travel fee, reserved-time fee, priority fee, printing, parking, toll, and other preparation or attendance services already performed remain earned. A fee for a notarial act that was not performed is not retained.

4. When MzNotaryMN arrives and the service cannot proceed

If the appointment cannot proceed because identification is unacceptable, the document is materially incomplete, names or identity cannot be reasonably supported, required signers or witnesses are absent, the signer is unwilling, or MzNotaryMN cannot reasonably determine capacity or voluntary action, the mobile, travel, reserved-time, priority, printing, and other completed service charges remain earned.

The same rule applies when a client or third party provides incorrect information that caused unnecessary travel or preparation. Notarial-act fees are charged only for acts actually performed.

5. Bedside and changing medical conditions

When a signer's condition changes at a hospital, hospice, assisted living, nursing facility, or home — for example, the signer is asleep, newly sedated, no longer lucid, or medically unavailable — MzNotaryMN will not automatically treat it as a no-show, and will discuss a reasonable rescheduling option. Printing, parking, priority, extended travel, or other documented costs already incurred may still apply.

6. Late arrival and waiting time

MzNotaryMN allows a 15-minute grace period when practical. Additional waiting time may require a wait-time charge disclosed before the appointment continues. If waiting would make MzNotaryMN late for another client or the signing environment becomes unsafe or unworkable, MzNotaryMN may end the appointment and retain only the service charges already earned.

7. If MzNotaryMN cancels

If MzNotaryMN cancels and cannot provide the agreed service, you receive a full refund of amounts paid to MzNotaryMN for the unperformed appointment. MzNotaryMN will offer the first reasonable replacement time, and an MzNotaryMN priority fee is waived on the rescheduled appointment when the cancellation was MzNotaryMN's responsibility.

A cancellation or delay caused by severe weather, road closure, government or facility closure, platform outage, emergency, illness, accident, or another event outside reasonable control is handled reasonably under the Terms of Service. You receive a refund of clearly unearned amounts.

8. If MzNotaryMN makes a notarial error

If a document is rejected because MzNotaryMN made an error in the notarial certificate, signature, date, venue, seal, or another part of the act within the notary's responsibility, MzNotaryMN will correct the error without an additional redo fee. When a new appearance or signature is legally necessary, the signer must participate again. MzNotaryMN covers its reasonable correction-related travel or courier costs.

This redo commitment does not apply when the rejection results from document content, incorrect instructions, an error by another notary or provider, signer information, a changed recipient rule, an ineligible document, or another cause outside MzNotaryMN's responsibility.

9. Apostille, authentication, and courier services

Service begins when MzNotaryMN accepts custody of the documents, performs eligibility screening, prepares a submission, schedules or travels to an appointment, arranges shipping, or begins courier processing. Fees for work already performed are non-refundable even when a government office or foreign recipient later rejects the document for a reason outside MzNotaryMN's control.

If the Minnesota Secretary of State or another authority rejects a document for an outside reason, the current reprocessing fee is $75 per document; correction assistance is $50 when applicable; and additional government, carrier, translation, consular, or third-party fees must be paid again. When reprocessed within seven days, no additional MzNotaryMN courier fee applies.

If the rejection was caused by MzNotaryMN's notarial or submission error, MzNotaryMN corrects it without an additional service fee and covers its reasonable correction-related courier expense.

10. Loan signings

Compensation for a title company, lender, law firm, signing service, or other hiring entity is governed by the written assignment or service agreement. Printing, travel, scan-back, waiting, completed-attempt, cancellation, or borrower-refusal fees may remain payable even when a loan transaction is not completed.

For a consumer who hired MzNotaryMN directly, the general rules in this Policy apply. A notarial-act charge is retained only for an act actually performed.

11. Remote online notarization

RON sessions use the Proof/Notarize platform or another approved provider. If a session cannot be completed because of credential analysis, knowledge-based authentication, identity verification, device, connection, or platform requirements, third-party technology charges are refundable only under the provider's policy. MzNotaryMN's own unearned notarial-act fee is refunded; any separate human preparation or scheduling service already performed is handled as itemized on the invoice.

12. Refund timing and method

Approved refunds are initiated to the original payment method within five to seven business days. Your bank or payment provider may take additional time to post the credit. Cash payments are refunded by business check or another mutually agreed traceable method.

13. Chargebacks and questions

Please contact MzNotaryMN before filing a chargeback so the invoice, appointment record, and services performed can be reviewed. Nothing in this paragraph waives your rights under applicable payment-card or consumer law.

14. Individual circumstances

Policies cover common situations, but people and emergencies are not all alike. MzNotaryMN may make a reasonable written exception without creating a permanent waiver or requiring the same exception in another case.
